We spoke to Simone Torres, an outstanding vocal producer, sound engineer, and vocalist from Long Island. Simone Torres has worked for years alongside her mentor, the five-time Grammy award-winning producer Kuk Harrrell. Torres has worked with artists ranging from Jessie J to Cardi B to Sia to Leslie Odom Jr  to Cher and many more.  We asked Simone 10 questions. Behind the Beat is a Gender Amplified original podcast highlighting the work of female and non-binary music producers.

In this episode, we had the honor to speak with Simone Torres, the Atlanta-based vocal producer, sound engineer, singer, and songwriter who has worked on tracks with legends (Cardi B and Jessie J?! Wow). Her journey to vocal producing and sound engineering was not a linear one, but at least some things always remained constant: her persistence and sheer passion.

Woman’s Audio Mission

Simone is involved with Woman’s Audio Mission, a non-profit organization that uses music and media to attract over 2,000 underserved women and girls every year to STEM and creative technology studies that inspire them to amplify their voices and become the innovators of tomorrow. WAM’s award-winning curriculum weaves art and music with science, technology and computer programming and works to close the critical gender gap in creative technology careers.

Simone has spoken at their AES and their Nashville Events.

Berklee Alumni and Faculty Receive Grammy Nominations

Simone’s Alma-mater Berklee College of Music wrote about her recent Grammy Nomination.

For the eighth year in a row, a Berklee alumnus or alumna is nominated in the Album of the Year category. Matt Schaeffer B.M. ’12 received his second consecutive nomination in the category for his role in engineering and mixing the acclaimed Black Panther film soundtrack, as well as a Record of the Year nomination for his work on the song “All the Stars” by Kendrick Lamar and SZA. Engineer Simone Torres B.M. ’15 was also recognized for her contributions to Cardi B’s Invasion of Privacy, nominated for Album of the Year as well as Record of the Year for “I Like It” with J Balvin and Bad Bunny.
